SPECIAL OLYMPICS INDIANA PLANE PULL DAY!

Updated: Oct 19, 2020

A long time ago in a galaxy far far away, Ferris Property Group Storm Troopers gathered to take on a Boeing 757. Sounds like the plot for the next production of a Star Wars movie – but it actually took place right here in Indianapolis!

A couple of weeks ago, our team participated in a Plane Pull fundraiser sponsored by Special Olympics Indiana. If you haven’t heard of them, SOI is a nonprofit organization that is a part of the global Special Olympics movement, using sport, health, education, and leadership programs every day around the world to end discrimination against and empower people with intellectual disabilities. According to their website, they have grown to more than 18,000 athletes! Their goal is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in more than 20 Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities at no cost to the participants. (For more info – check out soindiana.org.)

The annual Plane Pull is SOI’s largest single-day fundraiser and is held at the Indianapolis Airport Postal Hub. What exactly is a Plane Pull? Each team that signs up gets to play tug of war with a FedEx Boeing 757 jetliner. Your team can consist of coworkers, friends, family – anyone and everyone is invited to join the fun! But choose wisely because you will be timed to see how long it takes your team to pull the aircraft (weighing over 164,000 pounds) a distance of 12 feet.

As with most things, FPG takes it the #NextLevel and dresses up as a group. Last year we all wore inflatable dinosaur costumes and it was a big hit! We knew we had to come up with something even better this year! Enter Todd Ferris dressed up as Darth Vader, Terry Waggoner dressed up as Luke Skywalker and Megan Ferris dressed up as Princess Leia accompanied by the fiercest Storm Troopers around. We even heard the Imperial March as we made our way across the tarmac! It was EPIC.

If watching teams take turns pulling a plane isn’t enough fun, they have several other activities going on throughout the day! You’ll see Food & Beverage tents, with a special 21+ over area, kids activities, a car show, model planes – or just bring some lawn chairs and a picnic and hang out with your peeps. You may even spot Boomer! The Indiana Pacers & Indiana Fever support SOI on Plane Pull day by hosting the Hot Shot Challenge each year for the top fundraising teams!

So I know you’re all wondering – did we win the prize for fastest time?! Nope! We actually had the longest time. BUT! We did win best costume and had the BEST time!

The Special Olympics Indiana Plane Pull is a super fun event for your group to take part in and BONUS – raises money for a great cause. Hopefully we’ll see you next year!

Full disclosure, I am the Operations Manager of Ferris Property Group, so of course I love our brokerage! Working for FPG has been an absolute blessing to my family (as a mama of 4), being able to thrive in my career but also be there when I need to be at home.

We have also used them to both buy and sell homes, so I can vouch for their real estate expertise as well. If you’re interested in a career in real estate, looking to make a change, or if you have any real estate needs, we’d love to hear from you!
