TIPS & TRICKS FOR HALLOWEEN 2020

Halloween hits the trifecta this year – it falls on a Saturday, there will be a full moon AND we get an extra hour of sleep?! I couldn’t be more excited. And even though life looks a little different right now, there are still tons of ways you and your family can enjoy Halloween festivities.

Will you be Trick or Treating? Don’t forget your masks! Lots of costumes already include masks, but it would be easy to add them to any look. And even if your costume already has a mask, you could wear your regular face mask underneath. Another tip – try not to crowd other Trick or Treaters. Let one family grab their treats and head away from the house before you take your turn at the candy bucket. Maybe sit down as a family before you head out to discuss safety procedures and how Trick or Treating will look this year.

If you’re staying behind to hand out treats – don’t forget your masks (and gloves!) Hand out only prepackaged treats, nothing homemade. If weather allows, set up a fun display outside where you can sit and hand out candy. This will make it more fun for the trick or treaters (and you!) One of our Ferris Property Group team members, Anna Brennan, took it a step further to keep her neighborhood kiddos safe. She stuffed a few pieces of candy in to snack size baggies to hand out. This will limit germs spread by tiny hands digging around in the bucket for that perfectly flavored sweet treat. Brilliant!

If you decide Trick or Treating is not for you this year, there are TONS of ways to celebrate at home with your family. How about dinner and a movie? You could cook together and come up with a fun menu that goes along with your movie. (Think Hocus Pocus and Witches Fingers or Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown with Pumpkin faced quesadillas.) Someone suggested dressing up in costume and having to stay in character through the evening. Can you imagine?? OR, how about hiding candy all over your house and sending your kids on a scavenger hunt to find it? You could even decorate each room to be as fun or spooky as you like it. Host a Zoom costume party with family & friends – and give a prize to the best costume. Throw on your favorite Halloween jams and learn the dances as a family! (Monster Mash, Thriller, Spooky Scary Skeletons – so many options!) There really are tons of family friendly activities you can do to celebrate the holiday inside and the memories will be priceless.

Since Halloween is on a Saturday this year, maybe you and your family could get out for a little day time fun? You could find a pumpkin patch, navigate a corn maze, or find a Trunk or Treat. Have you ever been to Zoo Boo? The Indianapolis Zoo has an entire Halloween village set up for you! They are controlling crowds with entry times and following all local safety ordinances. (Check out https://www.indianapoliszoo.com/events/zooboo/ for more info!) This year, we checked out the Headless Horseman ride at Conner Prairie and that was super fun for the kiddos! We saw a magic show, solved a corn maze, and saw a puppet show telling of The Legend of Sleepy Hallow. (More info here - https://www.connerprairie.org/explore/things-to-do/headless-horseman/ )

What about you and your family? What are your plans for Halloween this year? Wherever the weekend takes you, we hope you have loads of fun and stay safe and healthy!

Full disclosure, I am the Operations Manager of Ferris Property Group, so of course I love our brokerage! Working for FPG has been an absolute blessing to my family (as a mama of 4), being able to thrive in my career but also be there when I need to be at home.

We have also used them to both buy and sell homes, so I can vouch for their real estate expertise as well. If you’re interested in a career in real estate, looking to make a change, or if you have any real estate needs, we’d love to hear from you!
